About Us

Marianne Kneuer is Professor for Political Science at the University of Hildesheim, Germany. She has been in the Executive Board of the German Political Science Society (2005-2015), from 2011-2013 as its President (2011-2013). Since 2012 she is member of the Executive Board of the German Political Science Association (GPSA) and also since 2012 member of the Executive Committee of IPSA. Marianne Kneuer has the function of a speaker of the Research Group „Democracy Studies“ of the GPSA and of Co-Chair of the IPSA Research Committee on „Quality of Democracy“. Her special fields are comparative regime studies, democracy promotion and European external relations. For a full CV and list of publications see here

Thomas Demmelhuber is Professor of Middle East Politics and Society at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and together with Marianne Kneuer Principal Investigator of this DFG-funded research project. A full CV and a list of publications can be found here

Tobias Zumbrägel received his B.A. in Islamic Studies and History from the University of Cologne. His bachelor thesis on the role of Gamal ‘Abd an-Nasser in the Arab-Israeli War of 1967 was awarded with the faculty price in 2013. He obtained his M.A. in the interdisciplinary joint Master’s program Comparative & Middle East Politics and Society (CMEPS) from the University of Tübingen, Germany, and the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Currently, he works as a research assistant in the project of Authoritarian Gravity Centres at the University of Hildesheim. For further information look here
