AGC Nahost + democracy Status blueIn contrast to the prevailing public opinion, Saudi Arabia faced different societal protests in the broader scope of the so-called Arab Spring that started in 2011. What have been the underlying reasons that the kingdom pursued a way that had been different from the one in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and Syria? Moreover, in contrast to other monarchies such as Jordan and Morocco, Saudi Arabia managed to survive without making promises about political reform.
While many scholars have investigated Saudi foreign policy among the fault line with Iran predominantly in the scope of Sunni-Shia cleavages, this project aims at focusing on the direct neighboring states influenced by Saudi politics during the investigation period 2001-2014
